The New York Post: North Korean and South Korean athletes to compete together in Asian Games

North and South Korea will march under a unified flag in the Asian Games and will play a basketball game next month as the relationship between the two countries continues to thaw, according to a report on Monday.

Athletes from the two rivals will compete as one team and march together under a “Korea” flag during the opening and closing ceremonies of the Asian Games in Indonesia from mid-August to early September — just as they did at the Winter Olympic Games in Seoul, Reuters reported,

They will also play a basketball game in the North Korean capital Pyongyang on July 4, which marks the anniversary of an agreement signed by the two countries in 1972 establishing the terms of unification. Another hoops game is expected to be played in Seoul later in the year.

Key Words: Trump calls Kim Jong Un a ‘tough guy’ as Fox News anchor calls out North Korea’s abysmal human-rights record

“We agreed to promote sports cooperation and exchanges including joint training and matches,” the two Koreas said in a statement.

The relationship between the countries has warmed in recent months after the two leaders — North Korea’s Kim Jong Un and South Korea’s Moon Jae In — met on the heavily guarded Demilitarized Zone separating the two countries in April.

Kim also met with President Trump last week in Singapore and agreed to work to rid the peninsula of nuclear weapons.
